Clean and coat
Wash the frame, especially where mud, fertilizer, and road treatment collect. Dry it, then touch up chips and apply a protectant to bare metal areas before it sits.
Take load off the tires
Park on wood or gravel rather than bare dirt, inflate to full pressure, and cover tires from direct sun. Long-term storage benefits from jack stands under the frame.
Battery and hydraulics
Remove or maintain the breakaway and hydraulic batteries with a smart charger. Lower and latch dump beds, and grease the coupler, jack, and hinges.
Deter pests
Wiring harnesses and enclosed trailer interiors attract rodents. Seal openings, remove food and paper, and check periodically rather than discovering damage in spring.
