Equipment trailers are engineered around one job: moving compact machinery safely and repeatedly. Heavier frames, wider decks, and ramps rated for tracked and wheeled equipment separate them from general-purpose utility trailers.
Overview
Most equipment trailers use tandem 7,000 lb axles or heavier, giving a 14,000 lb GVWR class that covers skid steers, mini excavators, compact tractors, and small backhoes. Deck widths of 82 to 102 inches accommodate wide tracks, and fold-up or slide-in stand-up ramps keep the deck clear on the road.
Look closely at the frame. Formed channel main beams, crossmembers on 16-inch centers, and rub rails with stake pockets are the difference between a trailer that stays square after five years of loading and one that develops a permanent sag in the middle.
