Start at the ground
Check the white ground wire at the frame and at each light housing. Corroded or painted-over ground points cause the classic symptom where turn signals make brake lights flicker.
Connector care
Four-pin flat connectors suit light trailers; seven-pin round connectors add brakes, auxiliary power, and reverse. Apply dielectric grease and cap the plug when disconnected.
Go LED
Sealed LED lights draw less current, survive vibration better, and last far longer than incandescent bulbs. Convert the whole trailer at once so brightness and resistance stay consistent.
Systematic testing
Use a circuit tester at the connector first to confirm the truck side works, then move down the harness. Replace damaged sections rather than splicing repeatedly with twist connectors.
